We intend to be back to in-person full-time instruction by the start of the 2021-2022 academic school year. With the required COVID-19 vaccination, we believe that this is feasible.
However, some families may want to have virtual options still. With this, we will still offer our VLA and EdOptions programs for next school year.
If you would like to be apart of the virtual learning options, you must login to Jupiter and complete the form by no later than June 1st. If this form is not completed, it will be assumed that the student will do in-person instruction.
Some important points to consider:
Students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities in-person at school
SEL resources will be included
Counseling services will be available
Virtual programs are not recommended for students with IEPs (modified curriculum) or intensive support
School meal services will be available
Reliable home internet is required
All students and parents (and/or the adult serving as the home learning coach) must attend an in-person meeting prior to the start of the school year
Students must report in-person for state, federal, or district assessments and transportation must be provided
Failure to complete coursework or have below 90% attendance will kick the student out of the program
Students and parents must agree to the virtual school handbook

Virtual Learning Academy (VLA) Grades K-12
Students in the K-12 program will receive online instruction five days per week from RCS teachers. This will be a blend of live instruction via internet tools such as Zoom and posted lessons on platforms. All Indiana standards will be taught, in both the core subjects of Reading, Math, Science and Social Studies and in related areas, including Art, Music, Computer Science, and Physical Education. Students must participate in scheduled live online interactions with teachers and peers each school day, during regular school hours. Adult supervision and engagement at home (a “home learning coach”) is required for all students participating in VLA. All students and parents (and/or the adult serving as the home learning coach) must attend meetings in-person at school for one half-day each month, to receive important supports and materials. VLA students may drop out at any point and do in-person instruction.
EdOptions Academy Grades 7-12
Lessons for students in grades 7-12 will be provided through the Edmentum online curriculum, including mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, and electives. Students can access lessons and coursework at any time of the day or night, however, occasional live online check-ins during the school day will be required. The online curriculum is aligned to Indiana Academic Standards. Each course will have units, modules, recorded lessons, assignments, and assessments. Students must demonstrate mastery of material before they can move on to the next unit or module. Under the guidance of RCS teachers, students will set their own pace as they work through course material. At the high school level, numerous elective offerings, including Advanced Placement courses and some world languages, will be available. High school students can earn a Core 40 Diploma or an Academic Honors Diploma through this program. EdOptions is a year long commitment.
